Shaanxi History Museum


Shaanxi History Museum, China's first large-scale modern national museum, is known as "the Pearl of the Ancient Capital and the Treasure House of China". Located at No. 91, Xiaozhai East Road, Yanta District, Xi'an City, Shaanxi Province, on the northwest side of the Big Wild Goose Pagoda. There are 1.71795 million cultural relics (groups) in the collection, including 762 first-class cultural relics (groups) and 18 national treasure-class cultural relics (groups), of which 2 are the first batch of cultural relics prohibited from going abroad (border) for exhibition, ranking first in Chinese museums. The predecessor of the Shaanxi History Museum was the "Shaanxi History Museum" established in June of the 33rd year of the Republic of China (1944). It was renamed the Northwest History Museum in 1950, the Northwest History Museum in 1952, and the Shaanxi Provincial Museum in June 1955. In 1983, according to the instructions of Premier Zhou Enlai before his death, he began to build a new museum at the current site. The construction started in the summer of 1986. It was officially completed and opened on June 20, 1991, and its current name was named. In 2008, Shaanxi History Museum was rated as a national first-class museum, and in 2009, it was identified as a national key museum jointly built by the central and local governments. Museum area covers an area of 65000 square meters. The construction area is 55600 square meters, the cultural relics reservoir area is 8,000 square meters, and the exhibition hall area is 11000 square meters. The collection of cultural relics has a time span of more than one million years from the simple stone tools used by ancient humans in the initial stage to various artifacts in social life before 1840. Cultural relics are not only numerous in quantity and variety, but also of high grade and wide value.
